Good nutrition is necessary

Why do I say this? I've learnt the hard way. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in 1998 and suffered from neuropathy and retinopathy at the time when I was diagnosed. I was on a wheelchair when I came out of Korea where I was working. I went to the best physicians for treatment in Singapore (my hometown). Now I am walking well and seeing well. I did not stop at that.

I became a vegetarian about 30 years ago and at that time, seeing the death of my parents I told myself that I must live a healthy life. My father died of cancer and my mother of some major complications. I read extensively about the importance of proper diet and became a vegetarian and thought that I would be in optimal health, but unfortunately ended up with diabetes. So I started to re-educate myself about healthy lifestyle.

I discovered that being vegetarian alone does not guarantee good health. Even vegetables are poor in quality for the following reasons:

i. there is so much pollution in the soil and air
ii. oxidative stress
iii.indiscriminate usage of chemicals and pesticides

Although being vegetarian is good for the sake of non-violence and health. Still in terms of health, nowadays it cannot guarantee good health. Neither does taking meat guarantee good health. Let me not talk about the poor condition of meat. Many doctors recommend the exclusion of red meat in their diet.

If fact, Dr Ray Strand, M.D. doctor and author of "What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine Could be Killing You" has been really an eye opener for me. He says "The concern for my patients' health has led me to recommend a complete nutritional system to my patients". You can go to his website "www.bionutrition.org" to find out more.

I am not saying that a nutritional supplement can replace a healthy diet. No, it does not. Butt proper supplementation can bridge the gap between what our body needs in optimal nutrition, and what most of us actually get from food. The Journal of American Medical Association says "Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from randomized trials, it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements". But then not all supplements are created equally. I was taking different types of vitamins in my lifetime but found that there was no improvement in my health, until I stumbled into Usana Health Sciences.

I became aware that obtaining good health is really very easy. To realise that without good health, nothing else matters and lastly to help you understand the TRUTH about vitamins and how you and your family can achieve optimal health. True Freedom

Freedom is not about being free to do whatever you like or speak whatever comes from your head. We all need freedom....from what? From all the things that hold you back and stop you from growing. It's about being free from the pain inside, free from fear and unhappiness. We all like to be happy. It is an inner journey that each one of us must make if we are to fulfill our life's purpose.

In the last century, when Mahatma Gandhi appeared on the world scene, he commented that our enemy is not another country or another individual.....but that there are demons inside each one of us. He claimed that his first task, even before addressing any political change in the country, was to chase away the demons within himself. A century later, this message cannot be any different. It is a timeless message and is still relevant for us today.

If we look at the present world situation and its multiple problems, it becomes clear that neither more wealth nor more technology can solve any of these issues. These are temporary solutions. Wars begin in the minds of men, so too all the problems have their roots in the mind. Ultimately the cause of the problem is the human mind and we have to put that right. We need to chase away the inner demons.

We are all gifted with a very refined faculty called the mind.....but it comes without any manual. Even in the field of psychology, to understand the mind is considered to be a challenging task. To understand and recognize our own inner demons is not something we can manage on our own. It requires help and guidance.

Over the past few years, myself and many others have been students of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. As we studied the philosophy of life and meditation techniques taught by this University, we had many experiences. We gained deeper insights into how the mind works, a clear understanding of the source of human sorrow and recognition of the hidden enemy within. We discovered easy methods to free ourselves from deeply ingrained weaknesses.

The whole subject of the mind and spirituality is abstract. My deepest wish is that you spend some valuable time on this inner journey, that we all find and recognize our own inner demons and attain victory over them. I know that my journey would not have been possible if I did not have the practical guidance and company of that Supreme Friend that is God and for that I am grateful.

True Fragrance

There are unlimited brands of perfumes and fragrances in the market. Sometimes we go all out to spend whatever amount it takes to purchase the best perfume for the body. We love to get compliments from our friends for the fragrance that we exude, but does it really make me feel enough. At moments I may feel empty inside. So do I feel beautiful then?

True beauty comes from having fresh, positive and beautiful thoughts everyday. Just as we need to shower, cleanse our body and spray some perfume everyday so that we keep our body fragrant and fresh, we tend to forget to cleanse our minds to give it the right fragrance.

Just as we refrain from eating stale food and know that fresh food is good for my body, how about my mind. Don't we need fresh thoughts (food) everyday for our minds? Indeed we do. Thoughts of irritation and anger does not make me beautiful. But about thoughts of love, compassion, courage. How does that make you feel?

This is why the saying "beauty is skin deep" is not true. It is definitely deeper than the skin and it comes from deep within....from our spirit.

True Beauty

Everyone likes to look beautiful but we have always focussed on external beauty - wearing branded clothes and accessories, personal grooming etc. We go for regularly facials and to the haidressers to have the latest haircuts...... But have we felt really BEAUTIFUL??

Have you heard this saying that "true beauty comes from deep within".

I have learnt from from my own mistakes that in order to truly enjoy life we have to take care
of ourselves in four ways:

1. Have a healthy diet
2. Exercise regularly
3. Take a good dietary supplement
4. Do some meditation (positive thinking)

Unfortunately, our quality of life has dwindled down. People today connect sickness with old age. Do we have to get sick as we grow older? Our forefathers were definitely "healthy" to a great extent. At least they used to live longer. People are dieing young today. What has affluence done to us?

We do not have to get sick as we grow older. We can live upto a ripe old age still remaining healthy. We do not have to start "dieing" after retirement. We do not have to end up in hospital or the home for the aged as we grow older.

I notice many people dieing young from diseases like cancer, heart attacks, stroke, diabetes etc. What is the reason? I am writing this page to help fellow humans like me to become aware
of the situation we are in today, and to take action by doing the necessary for yourself.

They say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but for me, true beauty is real and we can achieve it..... to give us greatest satisfaction in life. We can live life to the fullest and die in dignity.

I will be writing more.....in this connection. As I believe in the theory of sharing. I must share what I know to be true, and if helps you, thats my victory. Take care....
